My 2nd chance bracket

Hey guys! First, I'd like to give you guys my 2nd chance bracket. If you're not familiar with the concept, you just make a new bracket after the Sweet 16 is announced because your first one is already trashed. Let's go region by region...
South
Kentucky beats Indiana
Baylor beats Xavier
Baylor beats Kentucky
I originally had Wichita State coming out of this region, but now I've got the Baylor Traffic Cones. Despite their ugly uniforms, their amazing 3-point shooting and the presence of Perry Jones in the low post should get them past Davis and company.
West
Michigan State beats Louisville
Florida beats Marquette
Michigan State beats Florida
Still sticking with my original pick here (and trying to avoid bias...). The Golden Eagles have been very inconsistent this year (example A: losing to LSU) but so have the Gators (season sweep by Tennessee) but the Gators are the hot team. Ultimately, I think my Spartans will out power Florida.
East Region
Syracuse beats Wisconsin
Ohio State beats Cincinnati
Ohio State beats Syracuse
I have a feeling that the winner of the OSU/Cincy game is headed to the Final 4. Ultimately, it'll be the Buckeyes who get there. As much as I despise Aaron Craft, he's a lot better than people think. Bo Ryan's Badgers should be easy meat for Syracuse, considering his March pedigree in years that don't end in 00. Sully and company will become the 2nd Big Ten team in the Final 4.
Midwest
North Carolina beats Ohio
North Carolina State beats Kansas
North Carolina beats North Carolina State
Don't rule out the Bobcats in their Sweet 16 game. Ohio U looked really nice against the Wolverines, but not so much versus South Florida. Kansas looked extremely beatable against Purdue, and the Wolfpack were clutch against G-town. I don't think an injury to the non-shooting hand should be that much of a hinderance for Kendall Marshall, so expect the Heels to beat their in-state rivals.
Final Four
Michigan State beats Baylor
North Carolina beats Ohio State
North Carolina beats Michigan State
The team that looked best over the first weekend should stay that way over the last weekend. The Spartans will push them in a re-match of the season opener, but UNC is too talented.

96 team NCAA Tournament

Hey guys! A little disappointed with my poor showing in the Bracket Matrix, but everyone has their ups and downs. I've decided to start 2 projects on this blog:
1) Simulate a 96-team NCAA tournament (because there was a lot of talk of expanding to 96 a few years ago)
2) Simulate the 2011 NFL season in Madden 12 with no pre-existing injuries (I have the latest rosters)
So, I created the bracket for the 96- team tournament. Here it is (note: I only tried to avoid conference re-matches in the first 2 rounds):

South Region (Atlanta)

Final Bracketology

This will be my last seed list. I'll probably post a bracket to accompany this seed list during the Big 10 championship game (Go State!) I decided to take out Seton Hall instead of Drexel. The committee is going to want a mid-major team in the First Four (I wouldn't be terribly surprised if they dropped a mid-major like BYU or Colorado State into the First Four as well to preserve the 2 teams below the red line/2 teams above it) among those four. However, I will admit that Drexel's resume is worse than Seton Hall's, but I still believe the Dragons are in.

Note 5:30: Updated to clarify MSU is a 1 and OSU is a 2.
1 Kentucky, Syracuse, North Carolina, Michigan State
2 Duke, Ohio State, Missouri, Kansas
3 Marquette, Wisconsin, Michigan, Baylor
4 Indiana, Georgetown, Louisville, Florida State
5 Wichita State, UNLV, Murray State, Florida

12 Texas vs. Drexel, South Florida vs. North Carolina State, VCU, Long Beach State
13 Colorado, Saint Bonaventure, Belmont, South Dakota State

3/11/12 Thoughts

Hey guys! I'm gonna be here talking about today's games as they happen and answer any questions you guys have (probably none judging by my comments so far... but I digress).

1:30 Bonnies will steal a bid (maybe from Drexel, maybe Seton Hall) if they win this against X. Interesting to note that my teams in the field are the same as the consensus teams in the Bracket Matrix (as of now). Might do some more blind resumes for the teams seeded in the 3-6 seed range and the 7-10 seed range later today... not sure. So don't be surprised if you see some changes there. Vandy/Kentucky could be a good one, Commodores played 'em tight on the 25th of February.

1:50 Sick jumper there by Xavier to get the 3-point play. Florida State's offense is on all cylinders, and it looks like Kentucky could be in for a battle. My picks for these games:
Florida State by 11
Xavier by 2
Kentucky by 8

2:05 Bonnies and 'Noles up at half, tie game in Blue Orleans. Drexel, Mississippi State and Seton Hall are tuned to CBS and on the verge of a heart attack.

2:30 Something tells me that dunk by the Bonnies might spark a run for them... Heels clawing back in it. And I must say, that airballed free throw by Vandy is the first I've seen in a while.

3:00 We've got 3 close ones. Vanderbilt's bad free throw shooting could be their demise in this one and Florida State needs to go into worry mode. So many times in this Kentucky game the 'Cats have used their pure height advantage to snag boards (Jones has been doing this a lot) and get the 2nd chance points. As I type, Kidd-Gilchrist gets his 5th foul and he's out.

3:03 The times I wish I had picture in picture... That was a blatant foul on Florida State (and I'm pulling for them). Nice shot by the Heels though. Looks like the Bonnies have this one in the bag (or close to it).

3:06 Why on earth did the Heels shoot a 3?

3:10 You must be doing something right if you beat the #1 team in the nation AND you miss 11 free throws. Florida State wins, Heels really blew a chance earlier when they shot that 3 after Florida State dropped the front end of the 1 and 1.

3:12 Finals: Bonnies, Vandy and Florida State win. All 3 underdogs, oddly enough. Now I have a big decision to make. Does the committee go the mid-major route with Drexel or the major route with Seton Hall? That's it for this post.

Bracketology 3/10/11 8:15 PM

This bracket is through all games that have concluded by 8:15 PM Saturday (Colorado/Arizona and Baylor/Missouri were the last 2 games included). Something important to note: in all likelyhood, the order of my bubble teams and who's in and who's out is final (there are no more teams who could be in or out left to play). If St. Bonaventure or UC Santa Barbara win their conference championship games, 1 (or 2, if both win) bids will be stolen and Drexel (and possibly Seton Hall) will get kicked out. There's a slight chance I might shuffle a few bubble teams around by re-evaluating resumes, but I doubt it. Tomorrow morning and tomorrow afternoon I'll probably have a bracket along with the seed lists. All teams that could be in or out of the bracket (in my mind) are in red. Remember odd lines are read left to right and even lines are read right to left so you can read down to find a region. These are the 9 teams who I think are realistically fighting for the last 4 spots in the tournament (in order from best shape to worst):
North Carolina State
South Florida
Seton Hall
Drexel
Mississippi State
Washington
Miami (FL)
Northwestern
Iona (a little bit of a reach, but the committee might want to put 2 mid-majors and 2 power-6 teams in the first 4, and Iona is closer to being in then Colorado State is to being out)

1 Kentucky, Syracuse, North Carolina, Kansas
2 Duke, Ohio State, Missouri, Michigan State
3 Marquette, Wisconsin, Michigan, Baylor
4 Indiana, Florida State, Louisville, Georgetown
5 Wichita State, UNLV, San Diego State, Murray State
6 Temple, Memphis, Florida, Saint Mary’s
7 Vanderbilt, New Mexico, Notre Dame, Cincinnati
8 Kansas State, Iowa State, Creighton, Gonzaga
9 Connecticut, Purdue, Saint Louis, Harvard
10 Virginia, Southern Miss, Alabama, California
11 Xavier, West Virginia, BYU, Colorado State
12 South Florida vs. Drexel, VCU, Texas, Long Beach State
13 North Carolina State vs. Seton Hall, Colorado, South Dakota State, Belmont

Bracketology 3/10/12

New bracket today! Arizona/Colorado winner will be the first bid stealer of the season. Marshall can join the club tomorrow and the winner of St. Bonaventure/U-Mass will get a chance to also join on Sunday. Also, I did some blind resumes yesterday so there's some shuffling around among the bubble teams. Arizona takes Mississippi State's place in the bracket. Remember you read odd lines left to right and even lines right to left so you can read down to find a region.
