Bracketology 1/1/15

It's New Year's, which means it's time for bracketology to come back! This is updated through the games of December 31st. Some reminders:

1) Teams in bold are projected conference champions with auto-bids.

2014 96 Team Bracketology

There was discussion a couple of years back about expanding the tournament field to 96 teams. I decided to make a 96 team bracket for this year to see how it might wind up. I tried to stay as true to the real bracket as possible. The link to the bracket I created in Google Docs can be found here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AjS9GJILd1GfdHFSVDExLTBMVFNjT0ZxU1VmLV8yaEE&usp=drive_web#gid=2

Bracketology 3/16/14 Morning

Notes:

1) This is my morning seed list, I'll post another one after all the conference championship games, which I'll label final. I'll try to put up a bracket as well as the seed list for both updates.
2) I'm feeling pretty good about the at-larges I've picked to be in. If any of the at-larges I have right now does not get in, my hunch would be that it's BYU, and that Cal is in for them.
3) Only things I might change not related to the games on Sunday is some seedings in the middle of the bracket. I haven't combed through the 6-10 area like I have the rest of the bracket.
4) I might do a live blog of the selection show on here. We'll see about that.
5) Remember that the seed list snakes, so you read the odd numbered lines left to right and the even numbered lines right to left. This means you can read down to find a region.

1: Florida, Wichita State, Arizona, Michigan

Notes

1) BYU is right on the cut line after their loss to Gonzaga. I'm keeping them in for now, but they'll be sweating it out on Sunday.

Bracketology 3/10/14

Notes:
1) Re-configured the seedings of some teams for this update. You'll notice some significant changes, especially on the 7-12 lines.
2) I've added the following categories to the seed list: Lock, Should Be In, Bubble and Auto-Bid Only.
Lock means that the team is going to the tournament irregardless.
Should Be In means that it would take a bad loss in the conference tournament to put a team in jeopardy. Bubble means that a team could go either way, in or out, relatively easily.
Auto-bid Only means that a team must win their conference tournament to get in.
3) I'm going to start chopping the "Next Five Out" list down over the week as the amount of teams with a chance to make the tournament decreases. Any team not listed there is going to need an auto bid.
4) The placement of Southern Miss on the "First Four Out" list indicates where they would be as of now without an autobid. They're probably only getting in with an autobid despite their inclusion on the list- a loss in the C-USA tourney would hurt their stock enough that they wouldn't get an at-large.
5) I'd like to make a quick note about UW-Green Bay since some people may be confused as to why they are included on the "Next Five Out" list. Even though their resume isn't all that great, the committee has set a precedent for letting teams like them into the tourney, such as Iona in 2012 or Middle Tennessee last year.
6) Bold indicates a team is projected to win the auto-bid of their conference, italics means that they have won it.
7) Remember that the seed list snakes: odd lines are read left to right and even lines are read right to left.

1) Most movement in this update is around the bubble: Providence takes over Richmond's spot in the bracket. Lots of movement on the 7-11 lines, as Oregon shoots up and Memphis drops.
2) I'll try to post an update tomorrow considering how much movement there will be after today.

Bracketology 2/18/14

Notes:
1. Toledo, and Harvard's positions on the lists at the bottom indicate where they would be without an autobid.
2. The odd numbered lines read left to right and the even numbers read right to left, like an S.
3. This bracket is updated through games of February 17th.
4. Link to the bracket for this update is here (go to the sheet entitled Bracket 2/18). If I missed a bracketing rule somewhere, let me know and I'll try and fix it. Note that I had to move some teams from their "true" seed line for bracketing purposes. St. Joesph's, BYU and Oklahoma State moved up a seed line while Oregon and Colorado moved down.

Bracketology 2/16/14

Notes:
1. Toledo, and Harvard's positions on the lists at the bottom indicate where they would be without an autobid.
2. The odd numbered lines read left to right and the even numbers read right to left, like an S.
3. This bracket is updated through games of February 15th.
4.  Baylor (beat Kansas State) and BYU (beat St. Mary's) enter the bracket at the expense of Tennessee (lost to Missouri) and Providence (was right on the cutline). Very little movement at the top aside from Saint Louis moving up a few spots and UCLA taking a protected seed from Kentucky.
5. Toledo losing badly to Eastern Michigan means that we now have a First Four game on the 11 line.
